Baseball World Series 2 Preview - Texas Rangers Vs San Francisco Giants

Baseball World Series 2 Preview - Texas Rangers Vs San Francisco Giants

It's been a magical 2010 season for both teams. The Rangers entered the playoffs with the worst record among all 8 playoff teams. The 2006 St. Louis Cardinals were the last playoff team to reach the World Series with the fewest number of regular season wins (83) among the clubs in the postseason. They went on to beat the Detroit Tigers to win the World Series. Will they be able to able to ride the wave and defeat the Giants?

Texas led the majors in batting during the regular season with a.276 average while finishing fifth in runs scored, and the club has continued the assault in the playoffs batting at a.273 clip, averaging 5.2 runs per game. The Rangers are the real deal and have been getting it done on the mound behind the work horse Cliff Lee. Lee is headed back to the World Series after going 2-0 vs. the Yankees last year with the Phillies. This shows you what kind of star power Lee has and how he can impact a ball club. The Rangers are favored on the road in the 1st game and Lee has never lost to San Francisco, winning all three career starts with a 1.13 ERA. The Giants will have home field advantage due to the NL win in the All-Star game.

Tim Lincecum has never faced Texas, so it's hard to gauge how he will fare in this series. The Giants were saved numerous times by a stingy bull pen in the Philadelphia series but weren't as sharp vs. Atlanta in the NLDS. Whether or not the bullpen was great or just the Phillies hitting was horrendous is tough to say. The Giants will surely rely on their bullpen against a power hitting team in Texas. The Rangers however were four games below.500 on the road this year against right-handers as opposed to their 36-19 mark at home. The Giants have two solid RHP's in Lincecum and Cain.

The Rangers should be able to average at least four runs per game vs the Giants. While the Giants pitching has been phenomenal, the Rangers truly have a lineup that can damage you at any position even without the DH. Texas has been able to follow up Lee with great performances from CJ Wilson and Colby Lewis. In the end the Rangers will be too much for the Giants and go on to win their first World Series title in 5 games.
